What is Application Delivery?

Application Delivery is a combination of services that work in tandem to deploy an application (typically a web application) to end-users with fast, efficient, and reliable data processing and computing within data centers or cloud environments.

What are the benefits of Application Delivery?

Application Delivery offers enhanced security, visibility, reliability, and speeds market readiness during the application deployment process.

  • Moves data through the network at increased speed resulting in a greater end-user experience
  • Improves network security with IP filtering, application firewalls, and encryption
  • Prevents servers from becoming overwhelmed with fast-acting distribution

Why is Application Delivery important?

Application Delivery incorporates strategy into an organization’s infrastructure with its speed and strength principles. App Delivery works to maximize productivity of personnel and digital engagements while maintaining the integrity of the app experience. Application Delivery is imperative to an organization maintaining long-term reliability and creates a sustainable competitive advantage when it comes to efficiency.

How does an Application Delivery Controller work?

An Application Delivery Controller (ADC) is a computer network device within a data center, often as part of an Application Delivery Network (AND). An ADC is positioned between an organization’s web servers and end-users to manage application traffic. For an example, ADCs often deploy a web application firewall in addition to load balancer functionality.

What are the key elements of Application Delivery?

There are three key elements to Application Delivery:

  1. Application Delivery Controller (ADC). ADCs are network appliances or software-defined controllers (or control planes) built with the intent to improve the security, performance, and reliability of app delivery via the web. Traditionally load balancers are used to deliver ADC functionality. Load balancing helps make sure the distribution of application traffic is efficient across various servers.
  2. Application Delivery Management (ADM). ADM refers to the technology that provides a robust view of how apps are delivered across multi-cloud environments. A strong ADM solution simplifies the monitoring process for IT.
  3. Application Delivery Network (ADN). ADN uses real-time data to prioritize the distribution of applications and provide reliable access for the end-user. Operating as a cluster of services, an ADN syncs deployment over a network to ensure visibility, security, speed, and application readiness.

How can VMware help with Application Delivery?

VMware understands that modern applications require a level of speed, elasticity, and automation that appliance-based infrastructure can’t deliver. VMware’s Application Delivery solutions focus on reigniting consistency wherever applications are deployed—whether that’s across clouds or on premises.
